Crimson and Carmine

Always steady, always ready
Thoughtful seems her gaze
Solving a puzzle perhaps
Or puzzling over barley and a maze

Aware of the eyes on her
She sways when she walks
She has their ears when she sings
But no one wants to hear when she talks

She murmurs a made up language
She knows the tricks of the trade
She curses and blesses
Deep from the monochromatic shade

Decked up in silk and crepe
And velvet and satin and lace
Always sitting by the mirror
Oh! She's such a vanity case
